What Is The
Illusory Truth Effect?
“The illusory truth effect is a repetition-based memory effect, where people consistently rate repeated statements as more true than non-repeated statements, primarily because of perceived familiarity of the statement”
This is one of the first rules of marketing! Repeat something enough times and people will believe it. This method is used in politics and advertising all the time, even when you do not realize it.
The conversations about the ethics of this approach are as endless as the conversations about how it works differently in people with different cognitive needs. However, in general, all the tests that have been performed so far, show that our brain does work like that.
How can this be used on a website? – When writing texts repeat the message at least three times (using different words and sentences of course) and people will be more likely to believe in you/your product/service.
