How to use videos in web design

and enhance user experience…

Using background videos in website design can be a powerful way to engage visitors and add visual interest to a website. However, it’s essential to follow best practices to ensure that it enhances the user experience and doesn’t detract from it.

Here are some of our tips:

  1. Use high-quality video: The video should be clear and free of errors. A low-quality video can distract from the rest of the website and make it look unprofessional.
  2. Keep it short: A long, looping video can be distracting and annoying to visitors. Ideally, it should be less than one minute to hold the viewer’s attention.
  3. Use muted audio: Unless the audio is integral to the website’s message, it’s best to use a muted video. Autoplay audio can be jarring and annoying to visitors, especially if they visit the website in a public place.
  4. Don’t use video as the only source of information: While a background video can be a nice visual element, there should be other sources of information on the website. Ensure that the video is complemented by text and other visual features that provide important details to the visitor.
  5. Optimize for mobile: With more and more people accessing the internet on mobile devices, it’s essential to ensure that the background video looks good and loads quickly on smaller screens.
  6. Consider the impact on page load time: A large video file can significantly increase the page load time, which can be frustrating to visitors. Optimize the video file size to minimize the impact.
  7. Don’t ignore your branding: Your video should always stay on brand. Incorporate your color schemes and the general style of the website. Also, if you are placing text over the top of the video, ensure the text is easy to read.

P.S. Try creating seamless loop videos. These will enhance the experience and show your customers how much you care. It also can become a “WOW” factor for many.
